My Love Dwelt in a Northern Land

Find of the day: Sogou playlist!!! Leapt from Voice of China to 2008 clubbing songs to choral songs. wheeee~ just when i was getting sick of english and korean songs, i discovered Voice of China. a nice change at the right timing. =D

then a quick turn to John Rutter's arrangement of Requiem. admittedly i didn't make it through the whole of Pie Jesu, it was just too slow...

thinking back, being in a choir, you are made to sit and sing for hours, perfecting every single pitch, crescendo, with the right sound quality. you practise harmonising with different sections each time, and you perfect every 16 bars or so for 1-2 hours. the whole choir is interdependent on each other, because you may need to listen to other sections to get your pitch for your next part. you are to emote every single word, and paint a mental picture of what you're singing, which is probably in a foreign language. the slowness of it all, is what really brings some balance and inner peace back into your life. something i find lacking in most people's lives, the ability to spend time on something that brings them back to equilibrium no matter where life swings them to.

Something i remember Ms Tham saying:

Music is all in the mind, and sound only exists in your ears.
