the one who's not in the photo is the one taking it

video clip to the scene in my prev entry

finished the thai movie i wrote abt in my prev post. the movie is damn nice. it's called love of siam. watch it when you have the time...it's about 3h long. 3h is long for a movie, but i didnt feel bored at all while watching. it's THAT good~

somewhat like seasons change, not in terms of storyline, but pace/humour/meaning. it's even better than seasons change imo. long entry ahead~ includes spoilers...dont read if u're planning to watch the movie.

the story is about childhood friends Mew and Tong who were neighbours. Mew was a very musically-inclined boy who was taught to play the piano by his grandma. Tong had his mum dad and a sister Tang while Mew only had his grandma. When Tang went hiking in chiangmai and never came back, Tong and his family moved away, leaving Mew behind. When Tang went missing, Tong's dad threw himself into a state of misery, downing beer every day. His liver was starting to fail but he still drank everyday.

Years later, both Mew and Tong entered high school. Mew had his own band August and composes the band's songs. By chance, the boys met each other once again on the streets. From there the story begins.

A chinese girl called Ying had moved in after Tong left. she has a major crush on Mew and did all sorts of things to make him notice her. Tong, on the other hand, had a girlfriend named Donut, whom he was losing interest in. June was August's band manager and bore a striking resemblance to Tang, Tong's missing sister.

Along the way, Mew and Tong had begun to develop feelings for each other. At the same time, Tong met June and decided to let his mum see her. His mum wanted June to pose as Tang so that her husband's condition would improve. so June started to visit their family regularly. during this period of time, she learnt more about this family whom she had never seen before, saw what they didnt see and understood what they didn't understand about themselves.

When Tong's mum found out abt the boys' relationship, she confronted Mew. Because of the feelings they couldn't control, they broke off contact temporarily. In the end they had to make a decision...

thumbs up for thia movie. touched on a controversial topic of homosexuality without crossing any line. gave me a lot of things to ponder abt...

first of all the mum in the movie is the one whom i admire the most lar. she must be the strongest woman ever. she didnt drop a single tear when Tang went missing. After the dad went down, she kept the family going with her sole income. She didnt scream or shout when the dad kept asking her where Tang was, get a bowl for Tang at the dinner table, where Tang was in the photo...everyday she came home and faced a drunk husband who simply waited around for food. she worked to send her son to school. she changed the photos without Tang to photos of scenery. but in her heart she really was tired. for fear for losing her only son now, she drives him home every day. for fear of her son going the 'wrong' way, she confronted Mew. totally understand man. why she was so against them. your only son, the one whom you pin all your hopes on, the one whom you love all your life, decides to be together with another man. She said it's 'wrong', i would have thought it's 'wrong' too, but i think this movie gives another perspective. It's not their choice too...dont we all agree feelings cant be controlled? you realise that these teenage boys are simply helpless when everyone else around them is affected by their relationship...at the same time you cant help but feel strongly for the mum as well...when Tong was angry at her for confronting Mew, she couldnt help but question her right to stop him from loving another boy, when she had been very adamant about it initially. she didnt have to waver imo. its only fair.

June plays another impt role...throughout the movie there was no confirmation that she was really Tang. But i secretly hoped she was. Just like how i secretly hoped Tong and Ying would get together in the end. anw.. june made this family see how things really were turning out. the dad came back to his senses in the end...and its really rare to see the mum cry in the movie. so when she cries its like omg heartbreaking man. cz u know its for a reason that finally made her break down.

Mew...a lonely boy who expresses his love through music and singing. when he met Tong again, he had inspiration for many love songs. when he and Tong stopped contact for a while, he didnt sing. he couldn't sing, rather.

as for Tong... he's a damn sweet guy in the movie. towards his family, towards Mew. good move he made in the end. although like i said i secretly hoped he would get tgt with Ying. but he made the right choice, to me at least. btw he's damn goodlooking. mario maurer! <3

Feelings are fleeting...arent they...today you feel one way, tmr u feel another. Tong could like a girl, and like a guy too. how does that figure?! haha. feelings cant be controlled that's for sure. ok i guess with enough willpower and determination, u can make it go the way you want it to.

very very very nice movie. like seasons change, it's got all the small details that gels the whole thing tgt. like at the last part....it didnt strike me...how a simple lie would have turned everything round.

i have no idea how the director/producer/scriptwriter makes this 3h movie un-boring. yay~ applause~ the pace is just nice. just nice for you to get into the mood, sit through the whole thing, thinking and reflecting upon every line the cast says. just nice for you to understand the characters and put yourself into their shoes. very very good character development in this movie. cinematography is good too. esp at the last part during xmas. rocks!

this movie has officially succeeded Seasons Change!!
